Celebrating the contribution of the evergreen romantic star of Hindi Cinema, Dev Anand on his 97th Birth Anniversary

  One of the finest actors of all time, Dev Anand was born as Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand on 26th September 1923 at Gurdaspur district in Punjab. He contributed to Indian cinema as an actor, writer, director and producer. Dev Sahab’s career in Bollywood lasted a long six decades. Young Dev Anand completed his BA degree in English Literature for the Government College, Lahore and then left for Bombay in the early 1940’s. He served as a clerk in an accounting firm for a salary of Rs 65. Later, he accompanied his brother Chetan to become a member of the Indian People’s Theatre Association. During his early days, Dev Anand was greatly inspired by actor Ashok Kumar’s performance in the films Achhut Kanya and Kismet. Babu Rao Pai saw young Dev Anand and was pleased by his charm.
